Basketball
Basketball is a team sport in which two teams, typically consisting of five players each, compete to score points by shooting a ball through the opponent’s elevated hoop or basket. The game is played on a rectangular court, with a hoop at each end, and involves dribbling (bouncing the ball while moving), passing, and shooting the ball. Points are scored when a player successfully makes a shot from inside the three-point line (worth two points) or from beyond it (worth three points). Additionally, free throws, awarded after certain fouls, are worth one point each. The objective is to outscore the opposing team within a set time frame, usually divided into quarters. Basketball emphasizes skill in shooting, ball handling, and teamwork, and it is governed by specific rules and regulations outlined by various organizations, including the NBA and FIBA.
